Eye infections are common in the pediatric age group. Even at best, most children are 'germ factories'. Good hygiene, including regular handwashing can help significantly reduce risks of eye infection. Many parents inappropriately refer to any red eye as 'Pink Eye'. 'PINK EYE' is a highly contagious form of conjunctivitis in school age children. It can be easily transferred among other children or adults. Many other types of red eyes exist: bacterial infections and viral infections are common, as well as allergic (atopic) conjunctivitis. There are many other causes of red eyes, too numerous for a discussion here.
